| Term | Meaning |

| **HATCH CORP** | The company that runs the lab and employs you. Its slogan: *not liable for anything, ever.* |
| **The Egg** | The giant mysterious egg in the containment bay. See [The Egg](https://crack-wiki.pages.dev/egg/). |
| **Specimen** | Whatever is inside the egg. Central to the [endings](https://crack-wiki.pages.dev/endings/). |
| **Shift** | One in-game workday of a few real minutes: WORK → BREAK → SLEEP. |
| **Daily Work Order** | The HUD objective with a progress counter. Completing it unlocks lab areas and shop tiers. |
| **Resource Depot** | Where you sell fragments and materials. |
| **Equipment Supply Depo** | The HATCH CORP tool shop, with tiers Standard → Executive. |
| **Agitation** | The egg's anger meter. Rises faster when one spot is hit repeatedly. |
| **Sedative computer** | Gives the egg a limited number of calming injections. |
| **Hot spots** | Damaged areas of the egg that can heal. |
| **Containment Plating** | A hard layer under the shell. Breaking it is a story milestone. |
| **Calcite veins** | Mineral deposits in the egg. |
| **Gold Geode** | A valuable mineral formation. |
| **Chalazae crystals** | Crystals inside the egg, wanted by a side task. (In real eggs, the chalazae are the cords that anchor the yolk.) |
| **Artery Sack** | A fleshy interior feature that can be burst. |
| **Yolk sack** | Deep interior layer. |
| **Parasite** | Interior creature. Take it to the processor before it explodes. |
| **Processor** | Machine that handles parasites and some minerals. |
| **Workbot / drone** | Automation robot from the robotics bay. |
| **Scaffolding** | Player-built structure for reaching the upper egg. Can collapse. |
| **Sleep gas** | End-of-shift gas that knocks out anyone outside their quarters. |
| **Sleep aid fee** | Charge for being knocked out by the gas. $5 by default since v1.0.43. |
| **Dream Bonus** | A percentage bonus on a shift's profit, shown in the day summary. |
| **Wealth redistribution** | An event that takes a share of player money. |
| **Eggsteroids** | Break room arcade game. |
| **Chill Mode** | Relaxed mode added in v1.0.43. |
| **[REDACTED]** | Both a room and an item. HATCH CORP prefers you not ask. |
