The Egg: Layers, Materials & Agitation
A layer-by-layer guide to CRACK's giant egg: the shell, Containment Plating, calcite veins, gold geodes, the fleshy interior, artery sacks, parasites, tentacles, the yolk sack and the agitation meter.
“There is an egg. It is very big.” (CRACK store description)

Layers, outside to inside
The order below follows the achievement and progression structure. Exact depths and hit points aren’t documented.
| # | Layer / feature | How you deal with it | Related achievement |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Outer shell | Pickaxe and chisel. Pieces split off like physics puzzle pieces. Sold as eggshell. | First Crack (99.6%) |
| 2 | Under-shell layer | Dug out with shovels. | |
| 3 | Containment Plating | A hard plating layer. Breaking through is a story milestone. | EGG: Containment Breach (8.6%) |
| 4 | Mineral depths | Ore deposits and precious minerals: calcite veins, gold geodes, Chalazae crystals. Some are sold, some processed, and some used for robot upgrades. | Struck Gold (30.3%) |
| 5 | Fleshy interior | Red, living tissue. Home to artery sacks, beetles, parasites and tentacles. | Burst Vessel, Pest Control, Hot Potato, Swallowed |
| 6 | Yolk sack | Deep inside. Breaking it open is a major story beat. | Yolked (8.2%) |
| 7 | The specimen | ⚠ Spoilers. See Endings. | Well Done, Free Range |
Reading the percentages: fewer than 9% of players have broken through the Containment Plating so far. The game launched on 2026-10-26, so most players are still in the shell and mineral layers.
Reaching the whole egg
- The lower band is reachable from the floor.
- The middle and top need scaffolding, built from a few pieces using a construction kit.
- Scaffolding can collapse. Players report egg agitation events cause it. Riding it down unlocks Structural Collapse (0.8%).

Materials
| Material | Where | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Eggshell fragments | Outer shell | Sell at Resource Depot (trailer: +$9.00 per load) |
| Calcite veins | Mineral layer | Sell / process. A v1.0.43 fix made them visible on some AMD/Intel GPUs. |
| Gold Geode | Mineral layer | Valuable. Break a chunk off for Struck Gold. |
| Chalazae crystals | Inside the egg | A side task asked for 4 crystals for a $50 reward (trailer) |
| Ore deposits | Depths | Some go to the processor, and some upgrade workbots |
Use an upgraded scanner to find the richest spots.
Egg creatures & hazards
- Beetles: squish 25 for Pest Control (0.6%, one of the rarest).
- Parasites: carry them to the processor before the timer runs out or they explode. Holding one too long earns Hot Potato.
- Tentacles: can grab and pull you in (Swallowed, 26.9%).
- Artery sacks: burst one for Burst Vessel.
- Hot spots: the egg can heal damaged areas. The developer console has a
heal_hotspotsdebug command.
Agitation and sedatives
The egg reacts to you. Players are told to “listen closely.”
- A monitoring device tracks an agitation meter. It fills faster the more players hit the egg, and fastest when you hammer the same spot.
- High agitation triggers events: shaking, scaffold collapses and more. See Events.
- The sedative computer delivers a limited number of injections to calm the egg. After an agitation spike, the sedative supply refills.
- In Chill Mode the egg agitates half as fast.
Strategy: spread your crew around the egg instead of everyone hitting the same spot. Keep one person on the monitor during long shifts.
Quick answers
What is inside the egg in CRACK?
Under the shell are deeper layers including the Containment Plating, mineral deposits like calcite and gold geodes, a red fleshy interior with artery sacks, beetles, parasites and tentacles, and a yolk sack. What waits at the very center is the game's main mystery. See the Endings page, which has spoilers.
What makes the egg agitated in CRACK?
An agitation (aggression) meter fills as players interact with the egg. Hitting the same spot repeatedly fills it faster. Agitation spikes trigger events, and the sedative computer can calm the egg with a limited number of injections.
